For me, no festive season is complete without a visit to a traditional German Christmas market. I can think of nothing more perfectly wintery than grasping a mug of Glühwein in gloved hands as I wander the stalls. If you are very lucky, there will be Lebkuchen for you to enjoy as well.

These traditional Austrian biscuits are easy enough to make if you have a well-stocked spice rack. I’ve looked up the traditional blend of spices and shared them with you. It is well worth the effort required to replicate this recipe though an equivalent amount of sweet mixed spice (maybe with a pinch of extra ground cloves) will make a very nice biscuit.
