Our story
‘Baking tomorrow better’. It’s a catchy line, but what does it really mean? Well, for us, it means creating high quality ingredients, that are fairer to farmers and better for bakers.
How it all began…
It all started with a single cocoa powder back in the 80s. That powder was the brainchild of Oxfam. The charity wanted to create a premium quality, fairly traded cocoa powder – a first for the UK. Over time, Food Thoughts added other products to the range, from Organic Cacao Powder to Chocolate Coated Cacao Nibs.

We’ve kept ethics at the heart of everything we do. All of our products are fairly traded. This means that our cocoa farmers have safer working conditions and receive a fairer price. Child labour is not allowed. And the communities benefit from extra initiatives, such as schools, roads, wells and aqueducts.

At Food Thoughts, we believe baking is an act of love. Better ingredients = better bakes = more joy. So we only use ‘fino de aroma’ cocoa beans. Just 8% of cocoa beans achieves that grade. And we use natural methods to prepare the beans, such as sun-drying them for 14 days. This helps to lock in both the intense flavour and the nutrients.
