Our Growers

Our Growers

At Food Thoughts, we believe that great ingredients start with great growers. This is why we work exclusively with two trusted suppliers who share our values of quality, transparency, and ethical trading.

Our cacao and cocoa powders are organically cultivated and Fairtrade-certified, sourced from the Dominican Republic, where we’ve been working with farmers for over 25 years. Every step of the process is designed to support smallholder farmers and their families, ensuring they receive fair pay and better working conditions.

Our chocolate chips and cacao nibs come from a family-owned B Corp business in Colombia. Founded in 1906, this company now works with 2,500 farming families, alongside its own farms, using cacao as a force for good. Through their sustainability programme, they’re helping to develop schools, plant trees, build infrastructure, and improve living conditions—proving that ethical cocoa is about more than just taste; it’s about people, too.

“The Chocolate Dream is transforming Caribia’s youngsters while also letting them have fun. We are now stronger and more resilient thanks to everything we have learned … and we can now confidently state that we know what we want. The coaching we have been provided with has given us great hope for the future.” – Isabela González

For us, sourcing isn’t just about finding the best cocoa—it’s about making sure every bar, chip, and powder has a positive impact on the people who grow it. Because good chocolate should do good, too.

Our Dreamers

Our Dreamers

More people than ever are turning their love of baking into a business—with women leading the way. The UK is now home to around 4,500 craft bakeries, from letterbox brownies to bespoke wedding cakes. We know that quality ingredients matter, which is why we offer 750g bags on AmazonUK—so bakers can get what they need, when they need it. You’ll also find our chocolate baking ingredients in tubs at your local supermarket for extra convenience. Because great bakes start with the great ingredients.

Taste

Taste

You want to make bakes that you’re proud of. Ones that bring happiness with every bite. While we can’t sift your flour or whisk the batter, we can make sure that our products are the best they can be. Because better ingredients = better, yummier bakes.

So, we only use ‘fino de aroma’ cacao beans from Colombia and the Dominican Republic. (Only 8% of cacao worldwide makes the grade.) The beans are dried naturally in the sun for around two weeks.

While this takes longer than drying them artificially, it means that the beans aren’t tainted by smoke or oil. In fact, we keep processing to an absolute minimum. This keeps the nutrients locked in, so you have great tasting ingredients, whether you’re buying our Organic Cacao Powder and Cocoa Powder, or our deliciously decadent Chocolate Chips and Nibs.

Ethics

Ethics

We’ve been sourcing fairly traded cocoa since day one. Our Organic Cocoa Powder was the first Fairtrade product of its kind to be launched in the UK. And it was also the first to ever be stocked in Sainsbury’s.

We’ve built strong relationships with two cocoa suppliers: Luker Chocolate and YACAO, with who we’ve been working for more than 20 years. Over that time, the co-op’s members have benefited from new roads, aqueducts, access to training, and other initiatives. Read more about our ethics.

All of our packaging can be widely recycled. In most cases, you can just pop the tubs in your recycling bin to be collected by the council. Our bags can be recycled with carrier bags; drop them off at your local supermarket when you do your next shop.
