We’ve won THREE 2022 Great Taste awards

What are Great Taste awards?

Great Taste awards is the largest and most trusted accreditation scheme for fine food and drink. Established in 1994, it encourages and mentors artisan food producers, offering a unique benchmarking and product evaluation service. This leads to an independent accreditation that enables small food and drink businesses to compete against any brand. So we’re dead chuffed to have won again!

Since 1994 Great Taste awards have assessed more than 134,000 products. This year, the competition was tough. Our products were among 12,634 entries, judged by over 500 of the most demanding food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists.

What did the judges think?

The feedback was overwhelming: ‘Smooth texture with a distinctive flavour from the cocoa butter and less sweet than many white chocolates. There is a hint of fruitiness initially, but then a hint of spearmint at the back of the throat. Quite complex for a white chocolate and not overly sweet’ said some of the judges for our Luxury White Chocolate Chips.

The product that left them speechless was Food Thoughts Oat Mylk Chocolate Chips. Some judges were so impressed they couldn’t believe these were dairy-free chocolate chips! ‘Lovely creamy mouth that melts on the tongue. A pleasant milk chocolate flavour, not too sweet. We think this is an excellent product’. ‘We would happily eat a good handful and use in baking cookies and cakes. A very well made vegan ‘mylk’ chocolate, and versatile’.

Great Taste Producer 2022

We have also won the Great Taste award for Producer 2022, which means the world to us, as taste and ethics are in everything we do. At Food Thoughts we are committed to supporting our farmers in Colombia and Dominican Republic. They are mostly small, family owned farmers that use natural methods to process the cacao beans, such as drying them in the sun to lock in flavour and nutrients. All our products are fairly traded and sustainably grown and our suppliers are supporting local farmers, their families and their communities with initiative such as providing new roads, aqueducts, sustainably growing methods training, schools and community centres. Because together we are ‘baking tomorrow better’ ❤️️
